Introduced as a new feature on API3, this product supports subscription based payments for merchants and consumers who make payments online. With subscription based payments, customers can set automated card payments on their account where they can be debited automatically at different set times. For example, a user can set automated payments to automatically receive airtime daily or weekly.
Merchants who integrate our API are be able to get started using subscription-based payments by passing “account number” field when integrating our API. Once a customer tries to make payments from a merchant who is enabled for recurring payments, they will be shown the ability to set recurring payments feature on the Pesapal API I-frame as shown on the next below.
Once a customer has made a successful payment, we will automatically create a scheduled subscription on their behalf. An email alert will be sent to the email linked to the transacting card; notifying them of the newly created subscription. Moreover, a link through which they can access a dashboard where they can view their newly created subscription details will be provided.

1. How can one view the subscription details?
On the email alert that will be goes out to users, a link is attached through which clients can view their scheduled payments.
2. Can users disable subscription payment?
Yes, users can disable their subscriptions by following the link attached to the email. Authentications are done through an OTP that will be sent to their email. After verification, they proceed to log in to the dashboard where they can manage their subscriptions.
3. Does a customer receive a reminder alert for upcoming schedules?
Yes, customers receive a reminder alert for upcoming scheduled payments. They can login to view their subscription or disable the subscription in case they opt for cancellation.
NB: Customers are not required to proceed to make the payment themselves after receiving the reminder. Payments are processed automatically and charged to the customer's card.
4.How can a merchant get started to receive subscription based payments?
For merchants who want to enable subscription-based payments, they will need to integrate to our new API and pass “account number” field on their API Integration. If using the old API, they will need to populate the account number field on the integration they have done, so that customers can be prompted on our I-frame if they want to set up recurring payments.
5. Is recurring payments available to all merchants?
Yes, the feature is available to all merchants as long as they update their API integration and start passing the account number field on our API integration.
6.Which cards are currently supported?
We currently support Visa and MasterCard for recurring payments. We are working to have Amex soon.
7. Is Recurring Payments available for Pesapal Payments Page users?
Yes, recurring payments is available for our customers using payments page. If you would like a merchant using payments page to be enabled for recurring payments please share the request with the payments page team via Zoho.
